Cumbria has such a rich history, diverse landscape and interesting people – which is why I’m looking forward to seeing the events in The Studio on Saturday.
Starting at 10 am, Ian Francis is with Stuart Holmes with their session Read the landscape of the Lake District.
There will be some stunning aerial photography from Stuart to enjoy – as well as discussions on the climate and geology of our beloved Lakes.
Alan Cleaver then takes us on A Meander Along Ancient Paths – based on his book Get Lost. Let’s hope we don’t do that in the Studio! A lovely mix of local folklore and places, this will be an enchanting session in the Studio.
I am looking forward to discovering more about Hannah Jackson in her 3 pm session Becoming the Red Shepherdess. Hannah has a column in our weekly newspaper and is a regular on BBC Radio Cumbria. Author of Call Me Red, she is a first-generation farmer who has learnt her craft.
Author of Mountain Republic, Phillipa Harrison takes the 5 pm Studio slot. Phillipa will be taking us through the remarkable history of nearby Crosthwaite Parish.
The final session on Saturday in The Studio is Ian Hall talking about Thirlmere Before the Dam. Through paintings, aerial photography and CGT images we can revisit the Lakeland valley that was flooded to create Thirlmere Dam and provide water for Manchester. If you ever visit Manchester, there is a plaque on a fountain in front of the Town Hall which states the water has come from Thirlmere, the Lake District.
