The final day of Words by the Water 2022 in the Studio has the theme of History.

Opening at 10 am is the author of The King’s Painter – The Life and Times of Hans HolbeinFranny Moyle, Franny Moyle.

Franny’s session entitled Capturing the Court of Henry VIII provides a different perspective on this popular period of history.

From Tudors to 20th-century linocut artists Cyril Power and Sybil Andrews.

Author of Sybil & Cyril, Jenny Uglow has created a beautifully illustrated story of their love affair. In 1922 Cyril at 50 years old left his family to work with 24-year-old Sybil.

Jeny’s session Cutting Through Time is set to provide an insight into their love affair and artistic partnership.

Irving Finkel, author of The First Ghosts take the stage in the Studio next at 3 pm.

Irving’s session entitled An Ancient Ghost Hunter takes us through the history of the supernatural – from Shakespeare to gothic spectres and even further back to 3400BC. What is it that continues to capture our imaginations about the idea of ghosts?

The final event of Sunday and the festival in the Studio is Laura Thompson and The Heiress Phenomenon.

Author of Heiresses: The Lives of the Million Dollar Babies, Laura tells the story of the heiresses of the 17t to 21st centuries – married for family fortunes rather than for love. 

Sadly, that is the end of Words by the Water 2022. Thank you to Ways with Words for providing us with such an amazing literary festival in the Lake District, Cumbria.
