Something about human nature wants to know what’s coming up – and delve into the past to find where we’ve come from. Wednesday (16 March) at Words by the Water provides the bookends of the present, writes Karen Morley-Chesworth.
Francis Pryor MBE FSA is the author of Scenes from a prehistoric life and he opens the day in the Main House at Theatre by the Lake with his talk Bringing our ancestors to life.
Many will remember Francis from Channel 4’s Time Team series. Francis is an English archaeologist who specialises in the Bronze and Iron ages in Britain.
We are looking forward to hearing him talk about our ancestors’ daily lives in his wonderful style that brings history to life.
In the Main House later that afternoon we are looking forward to joining the BBC News’ technology correspondent, Rory Cellan-Jones who is looking at the impact of the smartphone on our lives in the future.
Rory’s new book, Always On – Hope and Fear in the Social Smartphone Era has led to his session at Words by the Water, entitled Switch On, Plugged In. Personally, I know I feel better when I switch off my phone – and also know how difficult it is to do just that.
I’m interested to see what Rory has discovered about the true cost of our hyperconnectivity on our lives and our health.
