Northwest based bakery begins collaboration with the Lake District Honey Company

Lovingly Artisan have been crafting artisan breads since the 1980’s and all the while they have worked with like-minded businesses, who are interested in ensuring that what we eat is nutritious, healthy, delicious and as sustainable as possible.

As a result, the Cumbria and Mancheter based bakery only works with the best organic suppliers, which is why they’ve struck up a relationship with The Lake District Honey Company, the latest venture by Jim Lowther, located on the ancient Lowther Estate.

Currently there are three varieties of honey in the Lake District Honey Company range, which are available locally through Lovingly Artisan’s Plumgarths and Altrincham shops, as well as nationwide through their virtual online bakery store.

Jim Lowther has built up an apiary of over 500 hives, nearly all of which he has made himself, located across the estate’s ancient meadow lands, moorlands and woodlands. From these hives the Lake District Honey Company produces three types of honey throughout the year:

Lake District Blossom Honey – this smooth creamy honey is made from the nectar of hawthorn, sycamore, chestnut, wild cherry and dandelion, with a hint of oil seed rape to produce a fine grain structure.

Lake District Heather Honey – a distinctive smoky honey made from the nectar from the purple flowers of bell and ling heather found on the moors around Shap.

Lake District Wildflower Honey – This sweet runny honey is made from nectar from a variety of wildflowers, including willow herb, lime, clover, wild raspberry and bramble.

All of which are then harvested and jarred on the estate by hand, so you really couldn’t get more local if you tried! Alongside that we all know honey is a 100% natural product, and handily it’s got lots of health benefits too, especially when it comes to gut health, which is something Aristotle bumbled on about way back when (384-322 BC).

Honey helps sustain the healthy bacteria needed in your gut to properly digest food, absorb nutrients, and equalise the immune system. Choosing honey over refined sugar really is a smart move when you consider it is made up of glucose, fructose, and minerals, such as iron, calcium, phosphate, sodium chloride, potassium, and magnesium, not only that honey produced by the Lake District Honey Company is really tasty on a slice of Lovingly Artisan Sourdough bread.

Which is why the team behind the two companies have joined forces to bring their artisan made produce together to create the perfect pairing of bread and honey, and who knows where this artisan partnership might lead i nthew coming months…
