One dad talking sourdough to help raise extra funds in support of ‘’3 Dads Walking’’ – which is why Aidan Monks of Lovingly Artisan Bakery, based at Plumgarth’s near Kendal, is using the excuse of National Homemade Bread Day (17th November) to do something in support of a very dear friend, George Airey, and a cause very close to her heart.
If you’re a frequent visitor to the bakery, you will have more than likely bumped into someone who we’ve fondly nicknamed “Chilli George”.
George was one of our first customers when the Lovingly Artisan Bakery was based at Oxenholme. She was a customer who very quickly became a friend and had more than a slight addiction to our cheese and chilli sourdough bread, hence her nickname, This very special friendship blossomed over the years, sadly, George and Andy Airey lost their daughter Sophie, 29, just before Christmas 2018.
No doubt you will have recently seen or heard of “3 Dads Walking” – Three fathers who sadly all lost their daughters to suicide, completing an incredible 300-mile walk to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention.
Alongside Andy Airey, walked Mr Palmer, whose daughter Beth was just 17 when she took her own life in March 2020, a few days after Mr Owen’s 18-year-old daughter Emily also sadly died.
Their efforts have inspired us and now it’s our turn to do a little something to help and support our treasured “George”
So, with that in mind Aidan has decided to do One Dad Talking Sourdough, to help nudge a little more money in their direction, and to do something for George – Sophie’s mum.
Which is why for the next five days from National Homemade Bready Day (17th November), all those that book a place on our Discover Sourdough Workshop running on 20th February 2022, will have their full workshop fee donated to PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide in honour of 3 Dads Walking and to do something for our dear friend.
