The murder mysteries penned by Agatha Christie pale into insignificance to the reality of her own disappearance at the peak of her career in 1926 – and this true-crime writer story is captured by the performance of On a Role Theatre at Words by the Water 2022, writes Karen Morley-Chesworth.
This first evening event of the Festival is a performance of ‘Where is Mrs Christie’ in the Main House at Theatre by the Lake. As a child visiting nearby Harrogate on a Sunday afternoon, my parents would tell me about how this famous author was found in the North Yorkshire spa town – so I’m intrigued to find out more through this performance.
To kick start the first day of the Festival, British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and Jana Lenxova who have written The Wonder of Flight. They will be discussing this book which weaves a fascinating and beautifully illustrated account of how nature and humans have learned to overcome the pull of gravity and take to the skies.
There’s a welcome return of Michael Buerk to the Festival – last time he was fresh from the jungle of I’m A Celebrity. The presenter of BBC Rado 4’s Moral Maze this year talks about words as weapons. An interesting topic for the Words by the Water festival.
