1. Catch the Northern String Quartet – March 6
There’s a wonderful opportunity this month to see the up and coming stars of Chamber music, the Northern String Quartet at an intimate venue in rural Cumbria.

2. Home & Garden Show at Rheged – March 13-15
This annual show is a highlight for everyone who loves arts, crafts and quality design and makers for everything for your home and garden.
The exhibitors are just part of the event, as the talks and workshops offer event more – the opportunity to learn more about interior and garden design, and develop new skills to help your nesting urges.
Over the three days, you can learn so much from the very best in the business.

3. Aerial – a festival of contemporary music, literature & performance, Ambleside and surrounding area – March 26 – 29
This is a new event, taking place in the stunning landscape of the Lake District.
It is intended to be the sort of festival that you can dip in and out of – and to minimise the impact to the local area. Organisers are only using existing venues (with very limited capacities).
The festival is a carefully curated collection of individually ticketed and free shows that allow you to plan a weekend escape to the Lakes on your own terms.
All activity is in easy reach of the best the area has to offer.

4. Catch the Phoenix Dance Theatre as they return to Cumbria with Black Waters – March 4
Internationally acclaimed, Leeds-based Phoenix Dance Theatre is set to return to Keswick on March 4 to present Black Waters in Theatre By The Lake’s Main House, an original contemporary dance work which premiered at Leeds Playhouse on February 12.
Black Waters explores two harrowing events in history. In 1782, the owners of the Zong ship attempted to claim insurance on the lives of the 130 slaves that they threw overboard. Over 100 years later the Kala Pani prison was used by British colonial forces to incarcerate Indian freedom fighters who spoke out against the regime.

5. Visit the Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year exhibition – March 2-20
The Young Cumbrian Artist of the Year Exhibition returns for it’s sixth edition and will open to the public at The Vallum Gallery, Institute of the Arts, University of Cumbria on March 2 2020.
Submissions to the exhibition were received from artists aged between 15-24 who live, work or are from Cumbria. From the submitted artworks 21 young artists were invited to exhibit their work and were shortlisted for the Young Cumbrian Artist 2020 Award along with two new Highly Commended awards.
The exhibition contains a broad mixture of sculpture, installation, mixed media, drawing and painting with a range of subjects being explored from climate change to more personal themes.
