WE are so looking forward to March as it means the literary festival of the year in Cumbria – Words by the Water says Karen Morley-Chesworth.
We will be covering many of the events taking place during the two weeks which celebrates the written word.
From 6-15 March the most welcoming festival will see the curious, the bookish and the adventurous gathering at Theatre by the Lake to listen to a great selection of our finest writers and thinkers.
This leading literary festival is a special event not to be missed. The ten-day spring festival of more than 100 events not only celebrates writing in all its forms but stimulates debate and discussion which often continue over a drink in the theatre bar long after the event is over. Expect a dynamic and inspiring line-up in the Main House alongside intriguing, intimate themed days in the Studio. There are plenty of opportunities to engage with speakers in the question and answer sessions or to chat with them at the book signing (the shelves of the festival bookshop, Bookends, simply heave with irresistible fresh-off-the-press titles).
Highlights from this year’s line up include: A.C. Grayling, A.L Kennedy, Ben Okri, David Owen, Jenny Eclair, Joan Bakewell, John Crace, Melvyn Bragg, Natalie Haynes, Polly Toynbee and David Walker, Ruth Davidson, Simon Heffer, Steve Richards, Val McDermid and many more besides.
