Treetop Trek is flying the flag for Cumbria and has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award in recognition of its work to be inclusive for all – the second time in less than six months the attraction has been recognised for such efforts.
This week’s announcement that the Windermere-based attraction is in the frame to win the ‘Accessible for All’ title at the forthcoming national Staycation Awards follows its success at the Cumbria Tourism Awards 2019, where the team was handed the ‘Highly Commended’ award in the ‘Accessible and Inclusive’ category.
Countryfile and The One Show presenter Matt Baker will be hosting the glitzy ceremony at London’s St Pancras Renaissance Hotel on November 21.
Earlier this year, Treetop Trek worked closely with staff from The Bendrigg Trust charity (pictured) and invested significantly in training and specialist equipment to improve the attraction’s accessibility for people with a disability.
Treetop Trek Managing Director Mike Turner says, “Following our recognition in the Cumbria Tourism Awards, we’re incredibly proud to be shortlisted again in this national category. We have taken proactive steps to make our activities fully inclusive. Through consultation with The Bendrigg Trust, staff training and investment in specialist equipment and access, our zip line can now be enjoyed by everyone. We are tremendously proud that we have opened up such an exciting activity to wheelchair users.”

Established in 2012 in the Lake District, Treetop Trek provides high ropes aerial adventures suitable for the whole family. Its sister attraction, Treetop Nets opened in 2014, which was the first of its kind in the UK and operates an unlimited ‘carer goes free’ policy at all sites.
