The Craftsmen at the Priory exhibition and sale is returning to the Dacre Hall at Lanercost Priory in August with 14 artists and designer makers taking part plus additional work on sale from at least six others who have exhibited in the past.
“We’re so glad to be back for our summer exhibition,” says Tricia Meynell of Castle Carrock, a fine art and abstract photographer and one of the organising team. “Craftsmen at the Priory has a reputation for high quality work and is a key event in the diary, not only for local artists, but also for potential buyers. This year will not disappoint as we have lots of familiar faces exhibiting great pieces and they’re joined by six new exhibitors, three from Cumbria and three from the north east of England.”
A group of craftspeople has been exhibiting in the Dacre Hall each summer since 1978 and Tricia is one of the core group that organises the event. Others in that core are Denise Huddleston (textile artist and print maker), Carolyn Marr (ceramicist), Julia Neubauer (textile artist) and Richard and Mary Kennedy (furniture maker/woodcarver and artist respectively).
“We’re all about celebrating the quality and variety of contemporary craft and creativity,” says Tricia. “From basketwork to metalwork, ceramics to textiles, jewellery to woodwork, there’s a huge range and that’s without the various artists, photographers and printmakers. The three new Cumbria-based contributors this time are textile artist, Kirsten Gilder, cabinetmaker, Nicholas Hobbs and mixed media artist, Daniel Ibbotson. We know that our visitors are going to love their work.”
The Craftsmen at the Priory 2021 exhibition will take over the historic Dacre Hall at Lanercost from Wednesday 4 August to Tuesday 31 August and is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
