THIS month, leading hospitality industry magazine The Cater announce the winners of the 34th Acorn Awards.
Each year the prestigious Acorn Awards highlight and celebrate the achievements of 30 of the industry’s brightest stars, recognising each individual award winner’s outstanding ability and success in their respective field within the industry.
This year’s list of rising stars includes Lake District head chef Dan McGeorge, from Ambleside’s Rothay Manor.
Dan now joins a stellar cast of previous recipients who have won an award since the inaugural event in 1986, including the likes of Marcus Wareing, Jason Atherton, Robert Thompson, Craig Sandle and Marco Pierre White.
Due to Covid-19 Dan and his fellow 2020 Acorn Award recipients will collect their awards at a prize-giving event at South Lodge hotel in Horsham at a date to be confirmed later this year.
Hotelier and restaurateur Jamie Shail, owner of Rothay Manor, commenting on Dan’s award said: ‘’Recognising rising stars in the hospitality industry plays an important part in securing future talent for the industry. The Acorn Awards are a huge positive for the sector and each recipient should be proud of what they have achieved so far.’’

2020 Acorn Award winner, Dan McGeorge, Head Chef at Rothay Manor, said: ‘’I am hugely proud that I’ve been selected as one of this year’s 30 under 30. I have had some exceptional career highlights so far but this one is right up there. I’m looking forward to meeting my peers and past award winners who have become hospitality industry greats. It’s really important that we have award events like this, we have to encourage future talent and what better way to do this by celebrating success.’’
