Fibrus supports grassroots sport with Kendal Rugby Club sponsorship

Fibrus Broadband has signed a new two-year sponsorship deal with Kendal RUFC, continuing its
investment in communities across Cumbria.
Under the partnership, the Fibrus logo will feature on the back of the club’s first-team shirts, on
pitch-side boards and in the club’s matchday programme.
Fibrus has rapidly expanded across Cumbria since it began building its Full Fibre network in
Penrith in 2022, helping to bring ultrafast broadband to some of the county’s hardest-to-reach
communities. The company now serves thousands of customers across Cumbria, including
Kendal and nearby communities such as Milnthorpe, Arnside and Grange-over-Sands, with its
network continuing to expand.
Earlier this year, the Full Fibre broadband provider announced it had donated more than £1
million to charities and community groups across its network area, with more than £470,000
benefiting organisations in Cumbria. The funding has supported grassroots sports clubs through
initiatives including the Play it Forward fund, alongside charities and environmental projects
across the county.
The sponsorship of Kendal RUFC continues Fibrus’ growing involvement in Cumbrian sport. The
company is already the headline and kit sponsor of Workington Town RLFC, whose ground is
known as the Fibrus Community Stadium, as well as the official sleeve sponsor of Barrow AFC.
Although primarily focused on Kendal’s Black and Ambers men’s first team, the investment by
Fibrus will benefit the wider club, supporting teams and activities for men, women, children and
over-55s.
Based at its 12-acre Mint Bridge ground, Kendal RUFC is one of Cumbria’s leading community
rugby clubs, with facilities used by local people throughout the week. Alongside the Cumbria
Cup-winning Black and Ambers men’s first team and the Vikings second team, the club also runs
the Wasps women’s team, who encourage players of all abilities to train and play. Kendal’s under-
18 Colts topped their league last season, while the club also runs mixed and girls’ teams for
children of all ages, with the Little Stingers programme introducing youngsters as young as five to
the game.
The club is also home to the Auld Greys walking rugby team for over-55s and regularly hosts
community events, including a walking rugby festival that brought together seven clubs in
support of the Dignity in Dementia charity earlier this year.
Colin Hutchinson, Group Managing Director of Fibrus, said: “As we continue to grow across
Cumbria, we’re committed to investing in the communities we serve. We believe our role goes
beyond providing Full Fibre broadband- it’s about supporting the organisations that help
communities thrive.
“Kendal RUFC is a fantastic example of that. It brings people of all ages together, gives them the
opportunity to enjoy rugby and is made possible by the dedication of its staff and volunteers.
We’re proud to support the club’s work and the positive impact it has both on and off the pitch.
We look forward to building a strong partnership with everyone at Kendal RUFC and wish the
club every success for the season ahead.”
Claire Park, Chair of Kendal Rugby Club at Kendal RUFC, said: “We’re delighted to welcome
Fibrus as a sponsor for the next two years. Their support will help us continue to grow as a
community club, providing opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy rugby in a welcoming and
inclusive environment.
“From our senior teams through to the Little Stringers programme and Auld Greys walking rugby,
this sponsorship will benefit the whole club and the volunteers who make everything we do
possible. We’re excited to build a successful partnership with Fibrus and look forward to working
together over the coming seasons.”
