As Windermere Lake Cruises relaunches sailings from Brockhole, it is offering Cumbria residents the chance to rediscover the landscape on their doorsteps for half the usual price.
It’s been confirmed that anyone signed up to a free Windermere Lake Cruises Residents’ Pass can enjoy 50% off all scheduled weekday boat services from now until 17 May.
Due to the pandemic, this is the first time it’s been possible to reinstate Residents’ Passes since 2019.
As well as full lake cruises and regular sailings linking Bowness with Ambleside and Lakeside, the discount is available for joint tickets with the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway.
The Residents’ Passes are free to anyone living in CA or LA postcode areas, which cover the whole of Cumbria and a large area of North Lancashire. Lancaster University and University of Cumbria students are also eligible to apply, by presenting their students union card.
In another boost for local people, MyCumbria card-holders can also benefit from the same offer.
Meanwhile, Windermere Lake Cruises will resume scheduled stop-offs at Brockhole from this Saturday 1 May, as part of regular ‘red cruise’ sailings between Bowness and Ambleside – and vice versa.
The move opens up renewed access to the Lake District Visitor Centre and a range of lakeside walks and outdoor family activities such as Treetop Trek. There is also currently free parking at Brockhole for residents every weekday.
Jennifer Cormack, Sales & Marketing Director at Windermere Lake Cruises, says, “We are excited to continue building back our services, with the return of regular stop-offs from Brockhole. The route linking the north end of England’s longest lake also complements regular ‘yellow cruises’ which are already operating both ways between Bowness and Lakeside.
“For local people wanting to ease themselves into summer, it costs absolutely nothing to sign up for one of our Residents Passes, so they’re an ideal way to rediscover some of the great Lake District sights on their doorstep without breaking the bank.”
All seats on Windermere Lake Cruises’ scheduled services are currently being pre-booked online or by phone, with pre-allocated seats to maintain social distancing.
To apply for a Residents Pass, see www.windermere-lakecruises.co.uk/residents or call Windermere Lake Cruises on 015394 43360. (Proof of permanent residency in a CA or LA postcode area will be required).
Under 3s already travel free, and well-behaved dogs are also welcome when accompanied by a fare-paying passenger.
