Carer Support Cumbria are celebrating their volunteers who help unpaid Carers across Cumbria to mark Volunteers Week (June 1-7) – and highlighting the opportunities for others to help people across the county.

Volunteers Week celebrates volunteers and is an opportunity for organisations and communities to says ‘thank you’ to them for the contribution that they make.

Across Cumbria, the unpaid Carer organisations, which form Carer Support Cumbria rely upon people who give their time to help provide services, support and fundraising.

CEO of Carer Support West Cumbria Sharon Sewell said: “Volunteers are a valued and essential part of our service, all our volunteer roles are designed to support carers health and wellbeing and to prevent social isolation to enable them to continue in their caring role.

“It’s well recognised and understood that volunteer services are of great benefit to those receiving the service but it can also provide benefits to the volunteer too.

“It has been found to, amongst other things, reduce stress, combat depression and bring some fun and fulfilment to your life.”

CEO of Carer Support Furness, Craig Backhouse said: “Volunteering a few hours a week can make a real difference to Carers. Time is precious. Carers support family and friends often with little time for themselves.

“Training and support is provided. You will not be expected to give personal care. We may need you to undergo an enhanced DBS check.”

CEO of Carer Support Carlisle & Eden, Dr Dani Leslie said: “Volunteering with Carer Support Carlisle & Eden is an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience. As a local charity, we are looking for people who would like to give something back in our community.

“Carer Support Carlisle & Eden has people from all sorts of backgrounds, and all age groups presently volunteering their time to support the vital work we do with our unpaid Carers in the Carlisle and Eden areas. As a Volunteer you will receive training, support and become a valued member of our team. You can make a difference to the lives of unpaid Carers in Carlisle and Eden.”

CEO of Carer Support South Lakes, Debi Marsden said: “We are constantly looking for new Volunteers to join us, and help us improve and expand the kind of activities, groups and events we offer.

“Our Volunteers often come to us with many positive qualities and there is always opportunity to learn new skills. It looks great on a CV if someone can evidence that they have given their time and experience to Volunteering.

“Many of our Volunteering roles only require a commitment of a couple of hours a month and these times can be arranged to suit the Volunteer.”
