Stagecoach is taking sole responsibility for buses between Carlisle and Newcastle as Arriva’s involvement in the service comes to an end.
From January 21st, the 685 which runs between Carlisle and Newcastle will only be run by Stagecoach.
The change coincides with the current Government subsidising of bus fares which means that a bus to Newcastle costs just £2 until the end of March.
Although there will be a few changes Stagecoach are committed to maintaining the hourly service with a few changes in the morning and evening.

Tom Waterhouse, director of operations at Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone onto our new service and we plan on working to keep all the communities who rely on the service connected.
“This change comes as we are still offering our £2 tickets which means people who live along the A69 route will now be able to take advantage of this offer.”
The route will not change and will still play a vital role connecting communities between Carlisle and Newcastle including Little Corby, Brampton and Haltwhistle.
Day and week tickets are available on the bus and on the Stagecoach app. You can buy 28 day tickets on the Stagecoach website.
To ease the transition, Arriva tickets will still be accepted until Sunday, January 29, 2023, however, after this date, you will no longer be able to use them.
