Thirteen of the region’s best artists and makers with the addition of four special guests will be exhibiting and selling their work in the annual Witherslack Artists and Makers Group exhibition, which opens in the Dean Barwick Hall at Witherslack on Saturday 25 September.
“We decided to go ahead last year and received tremendous support from our regular visitors,” explains Jane Bradley, a basket maker and one of the organisers. “After that experience, we’re confident that we can arrange this year’s exhibition to create a relaxing environment and to keep everyone, visitors and ourselves, safe. People were really appreciative of the opportunity to browse our exhibition last year and we’re sure we can build on that for 2021 with exciting new work from our members and some stunning ceramics, paintings and textiles from our guest makers.”
The annual exhibition has an excellent reputation, showcasing a high quality of fine art and craft. Visitors travel from across the region to buy the very best of local ceramics, paintings, prints, textiles, stained glass, leather and basketwork, wooden chairs and jewellery.
The 2021 exhibition will feature new work by 13 regular members and will also celebrate the creative skills of four guest artists: Rebecca Callis, a Kendal-based ceramicist working with porcelain, Heather Davies, a painter whose abstract work is inspired by Scottish landscapes, William Plumptre, an internationally renowned ceramicist who combines stoneware clays with Japanese decorative techniques, and Tomoko, based locally in South Lakes and inspired by the patterns and colours of the woodlands around Witherslack.
The Witherslack Artists and Makers Group annual exhibition is open for three weeks, starting on Saturday 25 September and running until Sunday 17 October, open every day from 10am to 5pm.
The Barwick Hall venue is alongside St Paul’s Church near Halecat Nurseries and up the hill from the Town End of Witherslack. There will be signposting from the A590. Further information is available on the website at www.witherslackartistsandmakers.com.
