Wedding business booms, as Cumbria attracts 5,000+ weddings in two years

AHEAD of Cumbria’s only county-wide Wedding Fair, latest figures reveal its growing popularity as a wedding destination – with more than 5,000 couples choosing to get married here in the last two years.

Figures just revealed by Cumbria Registrars also confirm that more than 2,300 weddings are already booked in for 2020. At the same time, there has been a leap in bookings for civil ceremonies already this year, following new legislation that allows opposite sex couples to form a civil partnership as of December.

The new statistics underline the new business opportunities for Cumbria’s ever-expanding wedding market and co-incide with the upcoming Lake District Wedding Fair on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February 2020.

The event is the only one of its kind in Cumbria, bringing a variety of bridal venues and suppliers together under one roof to meet directly with prospective brides, grooms and their families.

Event organiser Nick Hood says, “It’s clear that bridal business is growing and that means a diverse range of Cumbria’s hospitality businesses could benefit from new customers in search of the ultimate rural wedding destination.

“With the Lake District and Cumbria also proving increasingly popular for mini-moons, honeymoons and hen and stag dos, bridal business is a potential revenue stream throughout the year. We also know that many of the couples who get married here continue to return to the same venue year after year to mark their anniversaries, so canny businesses genuinely can inspire repeat guests for life.”

Cumbria Registrars will be among the dozens of exhibitors at the Lake District Wedding Fair, alongside a new ‘Natural Zone’ for eco-conscious couples, workshops and the ‘Look’ fashion show.

The event takes place in the Exhibition Hall at the J36 Rural Auction Centre near Kendal on 22 and 23 February 2020.  For more information about visiting or exhibiting, seewww.lakedistrictweddingfair.co.uk / @LDWeddingfair
