University appoints elite cleaning specialists to make buildings safer and more hygienic for students and staff

A UNIVERSITY has enlisted the assistance of one of the UK’s leading specialist cleaning companies to ensure the highest levels of safety and cleanliness for all students and staff.

Each year, thousands of students head to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and live in university accommodation – sharing communal spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms with fellow scholars.

And as the safety and hygiene of staff and students is of the highest importance to the university, it has appointed one of the country’s most reputable firms, Hy5 Commercial Cleaning, to carry out specialist cleaning jobs in university-owned accommodation and shared areas within university buildings ahead of welcoming the next cohort of learners.

Hy5 has cleaned the vents in all the university’s classrooms, kitchens and toilets, and deep cleaned three kitchen extraction systems to industry-required TR19 standard. In the summer, the team will get to work on cleaning the ovens in all student accommodation.

Hy5 Managing Director Keith Simm said: “It is hugely important that the very highest standard of cleaning job is carried out at these buildings to ensure high levels of safety and hygiene for the thousands of people who use the university.

“They’re always big, tough jobs to complete but you have to put in the hard work and use a bit  of elbow grease to ensure the best clean possible is carried out.”

Hy5 Commercial Cleaning has a long history of carrying out extensive cleaning projects across the UK, and specialises in cleaning extraction systems, particularly in kitchens and laundries, air handling units and industrial settings.

The company, which was recently re-accredited with the coveted CHAS Elite status – the highest level of accreditation awarded by the UK’s number one provider of compliance certification –

has gained a reputation of being one of the leading cleaning specialists in the country.

Its team of expert cleaning technicians have been commissioned to carry out large scale cleaning projects at universities, schools and care homes over the years, and will complete the extensive clean at UCLan within a tight deadline of three weeks.

A UCLan spokesperson said: “Cleanliness is vital to the smooth running of our university so we are delighted Hy5 Commercial Cleaning is undertaking specialist cleaning of our halls of residences and teaching buildings.”

Hy5 Commercial Cleaning is one of only a handful of firms in the UK with industry standard Building Engineering Services Competent Assessment (BESCA) Vent Hygiene Elite (VHE) accreditation which has been introduced to ensure all ventilation systems in commercial kitchen settings are cleaned to the required TR19 level.

The requirement to clean to TR19 level is particularly important to large, public buildings such as schools and care homes.
