The Yan, which has gained a reputation nationally as one of the best places to eat in the Lake District, has teamed up with University of Cumbria to offer one lucky person a three-year apprenticeship leading to a BA honours degree in applied management.
The chic family-run bistro with beds near Grasmere opened in July 2019 and has enjoyed rave reviews throughout the national press ever since. Set on a 17th century former farm The Yan has seven plush en suite bedrooms, a rustic bistro and a new dining space with views over Helm Crag and it’s now looking for a person passionate about food and hospitality to add to its team.
The Yan is offering the right candidate the opportunity to gain a BA Honours in Applied Management through the University of Cumbria degree apprenticeship scheme – an incredibly rare chance to benefit from paid training while studying for a higher-level qualification, without incurring the usual student debt.
The role on offer will be varied, with duties initially covering all operational aspects, including front of house, reception, housekeeping, kitchen and the overall upkeep of the hotel, self-catered accommodation, and farm grounds and previous experience is not essential. The successful candidate will develop, over the period of the course, an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the hospitality business including finance, marketing, PR and HR while enjoying excellent rates of pay, tips, staff meals, pension and holiday pay.
