Story Decorating Group score top marks for work on Everton Stadium

Leading Carlisle-based painting and decorating contractor, Story Decorating Group have clinched a winner’s trophy for their work on the iconic Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool.

In April, the firm were shortlisted for the prestigious annual Johnstone’s Painter of the Year Awards in the Stadium Hospitality Category.

The awards ceremony took place in Glasgow on Saturday 16th May 2026 with businesses from across the UK and Ireland coming together to recognise and celebrate the incredible skill and craftsmanship found within the industry.

Matt Baines and Megan Esmond of PPG – UK & Ireland Architectural Coatings presented the awards, announcing Story Decorating Group as the winners of the Stadium Hospitality Category.

Associate Director, Claire Story said “This award recognises the level of commitment, technical ability and sheer hard work that went into the project. The success of the project stands to demonstrate our capabilities for delivering quality at scale, building strong partnerships, and maintaining exacting standards even in the most complex of environments. We’re extremely proud of everyone that worked on Everton and the end result truly speaks for itself!”

Working alongside some of the country’s leading construction and fit-out specialists on this high-profile project, Story was entrusted with a complex and demanding decoration package that spanned both the stadium’s core infrastructure and its premium hospitality spaces. Within the Western-side fit-out, Story delivered specialist finishes within 16 unique hospitality zones including the Owners’ Box, private boxes, a Sponsors’ Lounge, restaurants, bars and pubs. Each space had a bespoke design concept incorporating a range of premium paint systems, luxury wallcoverings and bespoke digital prints that were meticulously applied to create a real wow factor.

Furthermore, on 21st May Story Decorating Group and their Everton project were revealed as finalists for the Construction News Specialists Awards 2026 in two categories; Project of the Year by a Specialist Contractor (£1.5m – £3m), and Specialist Contractor of the Year (turnover up to £25m). Finalists will be announced at the awards ceremony this September.
