Circus workshops, mini fairground rides and live music are just some of the attractions on offer at Holker Hall’s Spring Fair in May.
Families will be flocking to the beautiful stately home and gardens on the weekend of May 11 and 12 to celebrate spring with fun events on offer for the whole family.
A competition to find the dog with the waggiest tail is just one highlight at the annual Spring Fair, which also invites families to have fun with a range of circus skills from hula hooping to juggling.
Circus performer Andy Jester will be running children’s workshops throughout the weekend.
The circus skills workshops are included in the ticket price and will run on Saturday from 10-2.30pm and on Sunday from 10-4pm.
Meanwhile families are invited to register their beloved pooches for the popular fun dog show which will feature three rounds a day and prizes for the “Loveliest Lady” alongside the “Dog With The Waggiest Tail”.
Live music will keep toes tapping throughout the weekend with performances from popular local band and artists, Cumbria Collective.
Delicious food and drinks will also be on offer from a range of suppliers including Aupa Street Food, Greek Street and The Tipsy Truck, while Holker Hall’s popular cafe will be open for business as usual.
The Spring Fair is on a smaller scale to Holker Hall’s famous annual Winter Market but, with a focus on the great outdoors and our love of pets, it is still likely to attract up to 4,000 visitors over the weekend say the organisers.
“The Spring Fair is a celebration of the light nights and sunshine of the new season,” said Head of Visitor Services, Fran Horne. “It’s a fantastic family event that people really look forward to and we can’t wait to welcome them back to Holker again this year.”
Tickets to the fair will also include access to the historic hall and gardens, situated five miles south of the A590 – the main road running from Kendal to Barrow-in-Furness – on the edge of the village of Cark.
To celebrate World Topiary Day (12th May), head gardener Matthew Murgatroyd will also be in the Summer garden at two points during the Spring Fair (Sunday only) discussing all things topiary. He will demonstrate how to start a topiary piece for your own garden and offer visitors a Q&A to learn what it takes to care for Holker’s wonderful topiary and the range of tools used by the gardeners on the estate.
