A rescue dog who found a new loving home is drawing the winning raffle tickets in a special fundraiser for Eden Animal Rescue’s new kennels.
Meg, a lurcher, was rehomed from the animal charity, by Alan King, a volunteer and New Kennels Working Group member at Eden Animal Rescue.
The charity is aiming to raise the final £500,000 towards the cost of the new block and allied work at Moorlands Head Farm, Newbiggin and has already raised almost £200,000.
The Grand Raffle 2024 has been organised in aid of the New Kennels Project, with local businesses supporting the fundraiser with prizes including dinner, bed and breakfast for two at Leeming House Hotel on Ullswater a Centre Parcs Day Pass for a family of four worth £121 and a paintball session for up to 10 people worth £100.
Promoter for the raffle and Eden Animal Rescue Trustee, Fran Flower said: “We have been amazed at the generosity of local businesses, who have given wonderful prizes to make this a really ‘grand raffle’. We appreciate their support which will help us achieve our goal of raising the money for the new kennel block. We are also grateful to everyone who has bought tickets.
“We asked Alan if Meg would like to draw the tickets for the raffle, as she is one of our dogs that has found a new, loving home and it reminds us all why we are working so hard to raise the final funds – to help dogs like Meg.”
Other prizes included a Barbour® gilet, afternoon tea for two with Prosecco at the Lingholm, Sunday lunch for two at the Black Swan in Culgaith, a voucher for two to meet the alpacas at Base Camp, a voucher for Rookin House Activity Centre, a guided tour of Acorn Bank Gardens with the Head Gardener and a 12-month subscription to Dog Friendly Magazine.
The new building has 24 kennels, four of which will be for dogs arriving at the charity, isolation kennels where sick dogs can be kept apart, and new dogs assessed.
Eden Animal Rescue is looking for sponsors – businesses, individuals and groups to sponsor an individual kennel.
Eden Animal Rescue General Manager, Sarah Bean said: “Of the remaining 20 kennels, 11 have already been sponsored. We hope each of the remaining kennels will be named after a sponsor.
“We have also received a number of generous donations from individuals who wish to remain anonymous, to whom we are very grateful.”
Details on how to donate to the New Kennel Project and sponsor the new kennels are available on the Eden Animal Rescue website, www.edenaninalrescue.org.uk.
