Askham Hall’s Kitchen Garden Café is taking up a second residence at the nearby Queen’s Head, thanks to an upturn in popularity from walkers and outdoor enthusiasts exploring the Eden Valley during the winter months.
The quirky café, which is usually closed from December to March, is transferring over to the cosy, atmospheric surroundings of the 19th century inn, to encourage more people to visit the area all-year round.
Owner of Askham Hall, Charles Lowther says, “The whole ethos of The Queen’s Head is centred on providing a great location for local adventure with easy-to-follow routes like the new Lowther Castle Loop, all fuelled by wholesome, hearty food. As well as being popular with visitors, we know the inn is a meeting point for locals, so it seems like a natural place for potential visitors from the café to meet while the gardens are closed for the winter.”
The newly refurbished Queen’s Head will replicate a very similar menu to the Kitchen Garden Café, including brunches, light lunches, cakes and hot drinks. It will also continue to use produce grown and reared in Askham’s Hall’s kitchen garden and wider grounds.
Askham Hall’s Kitchen Garden Café will be open as usual on Fridays and Saturdays until 7 December, with additional food and drink services at The Queen’s Head from Monday to Thursday.
The café operation will fully move over to The Queen’s Head on a daily basis (until March) directly after Askham Hall’s Christmas Market on Sunday 8 December.
