RATHBONES Kendal has announced it will recommence its popular Financial Awareness programme for local schools in Cumbria, hosting free training and information sessions that help provide students with the knowledge and skills to build a secure financial future.

Across the UK, Rathbones’ Financial Awareness programme for schools has operated for over 10 years, and is organised and delivered by Rathbones’ local branches. The programme helps young people aged 16 to 25 to take control of their finances and contains a wealth of useful information, promoting financial literacy and prompting participants to think about important long-term planning at this crucial stage in their lives. The session explores the major costs and purchases people can expect in life, and how savings, mortgages and different types of investment can help meet these costs. The course contains valuable explainers about different types of investments and the risks and benefits of each, including government bonds (gilts), equities (shares), property, gold – and even classic cars.

The Financial Awareness programme is part of Rathbones’ extensive programme of community engagement, promoting financial literacy and helping nurture a new generation of business leaders. The firm is prominent in its advocacy for responsible capitalism, in which businesses prioritise the long-term, sustainable success of the economy over short-term gains. In 2019 the firm’s researchers published several whitepapers and articles and organised seminars exploring the future retirement prospects of today’s young people.

Rathbones Investment Management is one of the longest-established and largest wealth management firms in the UK, renowned for its in-depth research and its published insights into the long-term direction of the economy.

Schools interested in applying for one of the sessions should contact Rathbones Kendal by emailing Tomas.Owen-Jones@rathbones.com
