A team from the Settle Carlisle Railway Development company are taking to the hills this Saturday (August 17) to raise funds for the Air Ambulance, to mark the 20th anniversary of the refreshment trolley service on the line.
The charity walk from Horton Railway Station on the Settle Carlisle line, will take in Pen-Y-Gent and end of Ribblehead Station. This is the second hike from the line the team have done this year for their chosen charity.
The team have already climbing Whernside this year, and will be clear to see, as they will all be wearing yellow and walkers are invited to join the event.
Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company Operations Manager, Susie Payne, started her career in the rail industry as a trolley service operator on the line.
Susie said: “We know from serving customers on the line that our service is very popular with walkers, which inspired our year of fundraising to include walks from stations along the Settle Carlisle line.
“As well as work colleagues, we are a group of friends that enjoy walking in the Yorkshire Dales. Everyone is welcome to join us on these walks but please e aware that we do this simply for pleasure. We are not professional guides or first aid trained and you will be responsible for your own safety.
“We also ways have a great bunch of friendly people walking with us so it’s the perfect opportunity to socialise and make new friends whilst walking in beautiful surroundings – and we are also raising funds for a great charity, the Air Ambulance.”
Names the best scenic railway route in Europe by travel publishers Lonely Planet, the Settle Carlisle Railway is popular with tourists and commuters. The route has a regular refreshment trolley service provided by the Settle Carlisle Railway Development Company.
Susie added: “Our trolley service provides a little extra to our customers, and we are very proud of our team. We are improving our service this year, with new trolleys, which will hold even more delicious snacks and drinks which we source from local suppliers from along our line. Our new limited edition Settle Carlisle Ale has been created for the 20th anniversary, produced by Eden Brewery in Cumbria.
“Our aim is to enhance the journey for local people and tourists using our internationally famous line, and support communities our line service by sourcing local produce benefiting the local economy.”
The Settle Carlisle Ale is available from the trolley service on the Settle Carlisle line.
