Cumbria is fortunate to have two racecourses – Carlisle and Cartmel, which now are becoming more than places to gamble, they are music venues that give a completely different experience.
To see your favourite band or artist in a stadium setting, you often need binoculars to see them on stage, or watch on the big screens in the arena as you are so far away from the stage and the tickets are so expensive – however when they come to play your local racecourse, you can get so much closer to the outside stages plus they have the most amazing views.
Last month we were fortunate to be invited to attend the Sigala gig at Carlisle by the JockeyClub. After the racing, the barriers came down and we walked onto the centre of the course, where the stage was set for some great dance music. A lovely summer evening, it was a great event which had the whole crowd dancing.
The great thing about these events is that everyone gets dressed up for the races – it makes this a really special night out.
At Cartmel Racecourse Sir Cliff Richard and Sophie Ellis Bexter performed after the 29 June race meet – and in Carlisle in August style guru, Gok Wan will be spinning the decks after racing in a DJ set lasting approximately 90 minutes for Ladies Night.
The 5 August race night is the only all-female jockey race meeting in the UK.
Previously, we saw the Keizer Chiefs at Carlisle, and Madness have played the racecourse twice. It seems the big names love our racecourses as much as we enjoy watching them perform in the most stunning, beautiful Cumbrian setting.
Can’t wait to see who will be playing Carlisle and Carmel races next year – an I don’t mean the horses!
