The Think Tank, The Resolution Foundation, has released a new study which indicates that the population of some parts of Cumbria are growing considerably faster than other parts of the UK.
Amongst its revelations for Cumbria are that:
- The age of people in Copeland in Cumbria is growing twice as fast as the UK average
- South Lakeland is sixth nationally for the highest median average age at 49.8 years old, only just behind the top 5, which have average ages ranging up to 52.7 for the frontrunner North Norfolk.
In response to this, Graham Lamont, Chief Executive at Lamont Pridmore, said: “These findings confirm that Cumbria is experiencing a significant shift in demographic to become a region dominated by an ageing population, unlike some areas, such as Oxford, where the average age of the population is getting younger.
“With the decline in industry in the North West and the growth in demand for holiday and second homes in the region, many young people are having to move away for work, while older generations from other parts of the UK are moving to Cumbria to retire.
“These changes are effecting the make-up of the local economy and the key drivers of performance. It is also driving a change in the dependency of people in Cumbria and wealth in the region and so it has never been more important for families to put plans in place that protect the current and future generations.
“More so than ever before, people should be reaching out to trusted advisors to seek help so that they enjoy security in later life. We are standing by to offer that support by helping create life wealth plans for people from a wide range of backgrounds so that Cumbria continues to enjoy the same levels of prosperity that it currently enjoys.”
