Our Fitness Instructor Suzanne says ‘Thanks for having me!’

FIRSTLY, I’d like to start by introducing myself. My name is Suzanne and I’m a community-based Fitness Instructor based in Barrow in Furness. I’ve been invited by Cumbria24 to contribute a regular fitness feature, which I am really excited about!

I’m hoping to contribute something every 6 weeks. Aiming to raise awareness of the benefits of fitness, provide health & fitness tips and advice and hopefully motivate and inspire you to access fitness services that are available in your local community.

We all know we need to exercise to keep fit and healthy, but if you’ve not done any exercise for a while, it can seem a bit daunting. Where do you start? Well, I aim to help you with that over the forthcoming features.

As a Fitness Instructor, I’m on a mission to break down barriers that prevent people from being active and increasing their fitness levels and mental well-being. I have a strong community ethos and promote the mental and social benefits of community-based fitness. Using fitness as a platform to bring like-minded people together in an inclusive, non-judgemental, welcoming environment.

So when the Community Fitness Network asked me to become one of their Ambassadors, I jumped at the chance.

Community Fitness Network was created earlier this year by 3 amazing women. A non-profit organisation aimed at boosting the number of people attending fitness classes in the community rather than heading to the gym.  Bringing people together to exercise, have fun and just be together for a common cause, really does break down so many barriers.

This fits perfectly with the ethos of what I do. As the owner of Boogie Bounce in Barrow and Urswick I run regular classes throughout the week bringing people together for classes to not only boost their fitness levels but also to discover just how much fun exercise can be. We bounce, sing and we welcome everyone no matter what your age, size or ability.

Last month, Community Fitness Week was launched. This was the first of what will be an annual event which saw instructors across the country organise classes around the #foodforfitness campaign.

Anyone who attended a class during Community Fitness Week was encouraged to bring along a non-perishable item which was then donated to The Foodbank.

125,000 meals were donated across the UK and locally we were blown away by the donations made by everyone attending our fitness classes.

As well as our fitness classes we welcomed everyone to Coffee and Natter at ‘Love at First Bite’
at The Water Mill, Gleaston and ended the week with a fabulous community walk where even four-legged walkers were welcome.

Personally, I’d like to say a big ‘Thank you’ to everyone who came to class as per usual, who attended class for the first time and to everyone who donated food which will help families across Furness.

This is just the beginning of what will be an amazing journey, so please follow us on Facebook to find out what’s next.

So that’s it for this month guys. I will see you all on the other side of Christmas, where I will help you to focus on shifting those extra few pounds gained through Christmas over-indulgences.

Remember Christmas comes but once a year, so eat, drink and be merry!

Have a great Christmas

Suzanne x
