Carlisle-based telecommunications provider Online Systems has launched an innovative phone scrappage scheme designed to make it easy for businesses to dispose of old phone systems in a way that complies with regulations while offsetting the cost of installing a brand new system.
Businesses with older phone systems can arrange for Online Systems to remove their hardware, with the cost of installing a brand new phone system being offset by the proceeds of repurposing or recycling the old devices.
The Global E-Waste Statistics Partnership estimated in 2006 that the UK generates 1632 kilotonnes of e-waste per year – much of which can be recycled and diverted from landfill. Online Sytems aims to repurpose or recycle these electronics within the telecommunications industry – with the proceeds going towards the discounted installation of a new phone system. Waste that must be disposed of is scrapped according to WEEE standards.
