Cumbria’s Lovingly Artisan Bakery has been named among the UK’s top bakeries in The Good Food Guide’s inaugural top 50 bakery list.
The all-new list showcases the very best artisan bakeries in Britain, handpicked by The Good Food Guide judges from among the finest purveyors of all things pastry and bread-based from across the country.
Celebrating Britain’s modern baking boom, The Good Food Guide’s expert judges have scoured the country from top to bottom, travelling hundreds of miles in the process in search of perfect pastries, the flakiest, freshest croissants and full-flavoured loaves to curate the definitive list of the UK’s Best Bakeries for 2025.
The whole of northwest England is represented by just four bakeries from across the region, with Lovingly Artisan Bakery among them, listed at No.29, with a ranking of Local Gem alongside their Good Food Guide listing. A further three bakeries are listed across the northeast region, bringing the North’s total number of representatives to seven.
Those featured in the overall list include a makeshift industrial unit in Devon to a radically remote destination in the Scottish Highlands and a must-visit spot in Mid Wales, these top 50 spots all source locally, celebrate the seasons, and rival the pastry work of many of the country’s top restaurants, but without needing to break the bank.
For over 70 years, The Good Food Guide has been the trusted source of information on where to eat across Great Britain. It’s truly independent and is compiled by combining reader feedback with anonymous inspections by a long-standing team of inspectors, who criss-cross the country, reviewing as they go, eating as any other customer, paying their own bills, and then leaving to reflect on their experience and setting pen to paper. Each eatery included in the guide is assessed on its uniqueness, warmth, deliciousness, and how strongly it would be recommended to friends and family.
