North West based award-winning cake makers Ginger Bakers, owned by Lisa Smith, has been accredited by SALSA for the seventh year in a row.
SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) is recognised as the leading food safety certification scheme for the UK’s small food and drink producers. The certification is a food-safety standard brought together by experienced food safety experts to reflect the legal requirements of producers and the ‘best practice’ expectations of professional food buyers.
SALSA is a joint venture between the four main trade associations representing the UK Food Chain, these include UK Hospitality, the Food & Drink Federation, the National Farmers Union and the Institute of Food Science and Technology, with the latter operating the scheme throughout the UK.
Accreditation is only granted to suppliers who are able to demonstrate that they are able to produce safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard. As a result, the scheme is widely accepted by both retailers and food service providers across the country and as such many require that the standard be in place before they will consider stocking products.
Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, said: ‘’We are delighted to have achieved SALSA certification again, it totally demonstrates our commitment to the highest food safety standards. It’s important in the food and drink industry that we all play our part in ensuring that our supply chain is safe, traceable and auditable. The quality assurance SALSA provides demonstrates to food buyers and the public alike that our products remains at the highest standard, and that care and attention is taken throughout our manufacturing process.’’
