North West companies worked in collaboration to complete a major project rejuvenating popular public spaces in Carlisle city centre.
Cumberland Council’s multi-million pound renovation of Market Square and Greenmarket will benefit the local community and visitors to the city, allowing the areas to be used for a wider range of activities and increase footfall to local shops.
Main aspects of the work to revitalise the 6,000-square-metre area in the city centre and transform it into a multifunctional events space were carried out by Carlisle-based engineering firm Peacock Precision Services and Eric Wright Civil Engineering, part of Preston’s Eric Wright Group.
Kieron Peacock, the founder of Peacock Precision, said: “We are delighted to have played a key role in this transformative project, which will benefit the people of Carlisle for years to come. Market Square and Greenmarket are popular public spaces that serve as focal points for activities in the city centre, and this investment has helped make the area a more vibrant and attractive destination.
“The newly renovated areas are now ready to host a variety of events and activities, fostering a sense of community and enhancing the city centre for all who visit and use that space regularly.
“The project involved significant improvements to the area, including the creation of a more attractive, accessible, and functional area for a variety of community events and gatherings, and our team have worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible job has been carried out.”
As part of the renovation project, new amenities and facilities have been introduced with the aim of boosting public enjoyment, encouraging further footfall, and improving the local economy.
Funding for the works was provided by Central Government as part of its goal to regenerate and enhance city centres and high streets to drive growth, improve experiences and ensure future sustainability.
Construction methods were implemented to minimise dust and noise, adhering to the council’s regulations regarding noise levels.
Lindsay Gregory, Site Agent for Eric Wright Civil Engineering, said: “We’re delighted with the fantastic collaboration between Eric Wright Civil Engineering, part of the Eric Wright Group, and Peacock Precision Services on one of our 12 recently awarded schemes in Carlisle.
