A traditional English castle has made a New Year’s resolution to attract more American visitors by offering a taste of what it was like to dine like a Lord and Lady in the historic building.
The Cumbrian castle has always been a popular attraction for Americans. But it’s hoped the new plans will offer a more complete experience of life behind the ancient walls.
The “Premium Heritage Experience” will include a candlelit dinner in the sumptuous Grand Dining Room at the castle which is over 800 years old. The dinner will be hosted by the Pennington family who’ve lived in the castle for generations.
It’s a three-day experience designed to attract international groups of tourists and give them a quintessentially English experience.
“Americans have traditionally loved visiting Muncaster,” explains Ewan Frost-Pennington: “But this new plan will allow them to enjoy a far more personal experience. They have always loved England’s rich history and now they will get a chance to fully experience life as a Lord and Lady in a typically English castle.”
The three-day Premium Heritage Experience will let visitors experience:
A Castle Dinner – dine as Lord and Lady Muncaster did in the spectacular Grand Dining Room before a nightcap in the octagonal library with its roaring fire and incredible architecture.
A Hosted Tour – take in over 800 years of Muncaster history as you tour the castle with a member of the Frost-Pennington family who’ve lived there since 1208.
Bird Experiences – With Muncaster at the forefront of bird conservation visitors get the rare chance to fly a wide range of the birds with the expert help of the castle’s Hawk and Owl Centre team.
Lakes and Mountains – Visit nearby Wastwater to see England’s deepest Lake, its highest mountain and its smallest church all in one trip!
Trains and Landscapes – On route to Muncaster travel in luxury carriages through stunning scenery onboard the famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway – one of the oldest narrow-gauge railways in England.
Throughout the three-day experience visitors will stay overnight in the 4-Star Sella Park Country House Hotel a short drive away which is also run by the Frost-Pennington family.
It’s hoped the Premium Heritage Experience will make the castle even more popular with American and other international visitors and encourage tourists to spend even longer in the western Lake District.
