A brand new Alpaca Walking Experience will launch in the Lake District this Easter, offering people the chance to explore the secluded splendour of a 400 acre Lake District estate alongside its friendly family of resident alpacas.
Although Lake District Wildlife Park near Keswick is part of Armathwaite Hall’s sprawling private grounds, much of the wider estate has rarely been seen by the public. So, it’s a chance for visitors not only to get up close and personal with the alpacas, but also to discover part of the UK’s newest World Heritage Site from a whole new perspective.
Set against the backdrop of England’s 4th highest mountain Skiddaw with views of Bassenthwaite Lake, the new one hour guided Alpaca Walks will be led by expert keepers who have nurtured and cared for the woolly alpacas – Buzz, Herbie, Hector and Hugo – since they arrived at the Park as youngsters last year.
The keepers will be sharing plenty of specialist knowledge about these gentle creatures, who hail originally from South America and are renowned for their soft luxurious fleece. Visitors will find out more about their individual characteristics and experience these friendly animals on a one-to-one basis.
Claire Ivill is the Alpaca’s dedicated Keeper. She says, “The Alpacas have settled in really well and have such individual characters. Buzz, with his chocolately-coloured wool, is the bold brave leader of the pack, while Hector is the quietest of the crew. But they all love people and it is a pleasure to be introducing these new walking experiences where visitors can enjoy their gentle, friendly natures and take in the spectacular Lakeland landscape at the same time.”
The one hour Alpaca Walking Experience costs £50 per adult (16years+). Maximum four people. It also includes free entry to the Lake District Wildlife Park, where visitors can meet some of the alpacas’ South American cousins, including guanacos.
