As we go into 2022 there is still so much uncertainty about what the future holds for anyone in business. We have all in some way been affected by the pandemic, whether that has been having to close, have staff on furlough or some may have seen a boom in business and sales increase. I think the biggest challenge we face going into the new year is this uncertainty, however I am ever the optimist and will keep my fingers crossed that we don’t return to the previous feelings of doom and gloom…and for me the horror or juggling running a business and home-schooling!
My business took a change of course when the pandemic hit. Rather than dwelling on the awful situation and worrying about what was going to happen, I took it as a challenge. There was nothing I could do to control or influence the situation, so I decided to go with the flow and to make the best of it. I took to social media, started sharing my journey and also taught people who had been affected by the pandemic how to do their own marketing and social media. I had so much positive feedback from people who were struggling at that time that led to me developing a series of courses and coaching programmes in 2021, which has seen people from all over the world join in and be part of my evolving community.
I think this has not only given my business a boost, but also my confidence too as I’ve been able to pass on my skills and knowledge to others who may have been struggling in business or just needed some guidance. To see them make small changes in their business, which has helped them through the difficult times has been really rewarding and encouraging.
There is no doubt that marketing can be a funny beast and we’ve seen dramatic changes in the industry over the last ten years and in particular the last 2 years. It has been wonderful how people have embraced technology, delved into social media, or developed a new website as a result of the pandemic. However, this has been a challenge for many and I think this will continue into 2022. Just when people are getting to grips with social media, it changes, or when they think they’ve nailed their marketing another curve ball is thrown.
One thing I have noticed over and over is that when things go bad, or budgets need to be cut then marketing is often the first thing to go. Also, when business is booming people are often too busy to do their marketing or think they don’t need to do as much anymore. However, marketing needs to be a continuous evolving process that develops as your business does. People need to look at what others in their industry and doing, they need to think outside the box and be creative. Marketing doesn’t have to be hard or scary, it just needs to tell a story, showcase the people behind the business, speak to the right audience and be consistent.
So, in the new year among the depressing headlines and negativity that always seems to be around us, I will be seeking out those new opportunities for business growth, will continue to build my business and help my clients and followers overcome the challenges they face as well. Here’s hoping that 2022 is an exciting and prosperous time for you too!
