The team at Winter Tarn Dairy, based at Dockray Hall, Kendal, have won a silver award for their Farm House Salted Butter in the Dairy category of the Great British Food Awards.
The annual awards first launched in 2014 to celebrate the country’s finest artisanal produce, as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes. With categories from dairy to cheese, artisan drinks to savoury preserves, there’s a category for every food imaginable.
Judges this year included the likes of food writer and restaurant critic William Sitwell, chef Sally Abe, chef Paul Askew, chef Michel Roux Jr, chef Adam Handling, chef Raymond Blanc, and restaurateur Shelina Permaloo, to name a few, who tasted their way through a huge array of products across the 52 award categories.
To mix things up a little this year’s awards saw the introduction of completely new award designations. With four award categories as follows:
Bronze – awarded by the Great British Food Awards expert team of internal judges – to the products which offer delicious flavour.
Silver – awarded by the panel of celebrity judges – to the products which offer a stand-out foodie experience.
Gold – awarded by the panel of celebrity judges to the very best products in each category.
Platinum – awarded to products which have been awarded the highest accolade at the Great British Food Awards twice within the past four years.
Harry Jackson, from Winter Tarn, said: ‘’We’re thrilled that Winter Tarn’s Farm House Salted Butter was recognised by the judging panel. Receiving a silver award shows that we’re creating an excellent product that appeals to a broad audience and stands out on the national stage. Recognition like this is a real achievement for the team and recognises all the hard work they put into the business day in day out.’’
