Lake District’s Kin Vodka supporting retailer challenge in aid of Blood Cancer charity

Lake District-based Kin Vodka – producer of the award-winning Kin Toffee + Vodka – will be supporting regional supermarket chain, Booths, with their charity cycle challenge this month.

Over the week of the 24th-28th May, staff from the northern retailer, fronted by COO Nigel Murray, will be taking part in the ‘Tour O’Booths’ fundraising challenge, which will see them cycle over 600km between all 27 Booths stores across the North of England. The team will also visit two treatment centres to raise awareness and funds for Cure Leukaemia, The Blood Cancer Charity.

Kin Vodka, which supplies its award-winning Kin Toffee + Vodka as well as the new Toffee Apple + Vodka products to Booths stores, will be sponsoring the Lake District stage of the ride from Penrith in the North Lakes – via the Keswick and Windermere stores – to Ulverston in the South.

Owner, Judith Wren and the Kin Vodka team will be carrying out product tastings across all four stores before heading to Ulverston to welcome the team for the stage finish on Thursday 27th May.

Judith said: “Booths are such great supporters of local suppliers that it’s nice to be able to give something back to them through sponsoring their fundraising efforts for such a good cause. The Lake District leg will certainly test their cycling prowess, but what more fitting reward when they reach the stage finish than a warming shot of toffee vodka, created just a few miles up the road at Newby Bridge.

“Booths have stocked Kin Vodka since 2016 and they’ve previously awarded us one of their ‘Local Supplier of the Year’ accolades. We’ve established a strong relationship in that time, so it’s great to support them now.”

The challenging Lake District stage will see the cyclists cover over 90km with some tough initial climbs at Troutbeck and Thirlmere, before being rewarded with some stunning lake scenes at Grasmere, Rydal, and Windermere.

For Booths COO, Nigel Murray, the Tour O’Booths will be a warm up event prior to joining a group of 25 amateur cyclists riding all 21 stages of the Tour de France between Saturday 19th June and Sunday 11th July for the same charity – Cure Leukaemia.

He said: “After a hugely challenging year for our teams at Booths, the tour is a chance to come together in a shared cause. This ride isn’t just about the cyclists – everyone from the Booths team can share and support in the tour. We’re so grateful for the support of our suppliers, part of the wider Booths family, in helping us achieve our fundraising goals.”

Kin Vodka’s recognisable bird branding – a wren after founder, Judith Wren – will take pride of place on the Booths teams’ cycle jerseys as well as the business having a featured demonstration space within the Lake District stores during the week of the 24th- 28th May.
