The team at Simon Rogan’s flagship restaurant, L’Enclume, Cartmel, learned on Wednesday (13th December), that they had been named number one restaurant in the UK, in the 33rd edition of the Harden’s Guide.
Published this week, Harden’s Guide is one of only two surviving established UK restaurant guides made available in print, and the only one based on feedback from normal diners rather than a group of professional inspectors.
A total of 30,000 reports were submitted this year from a survey of 2,500 diners. Restaurants at all price levels are listed: from street food vendors to the country’s most ambitious dining rooms, with 2,800 restaurants across the UK listed in total.
This year, the number of Top 100 restaurants based in London has fallen to an all-time low. Normally expected to make up between 45-50% of the final rankings, this year only 36 of the UK’s best restaurants are listed in the capital.
By contrast the Northwest is one of the best performing regions, boasting 37 of the UK’s top scoring restaurants, with no less than eight making it into the acclaimed Harden’s Top 100 list, with L’Enclume featuring in Harden’s Top 100 every year since its inception in 2011.
Chef and owner Simon Rogan said: ‘’My team and I are honoured L’Enclume has been rated the number one restaurant in the UK by diners on behalf of Harden’s. Being awarded the top spot for the 2024 edition is a testament to the amazing year we’ve had.’’
Executive chef Paul Burgalières added: ”It’s been an amazing year for the team at L’Enclume and being listed at number one in the UK by Harden’s is a great way to round it off. I’m looking forward to continuing to push the restaurant forward in the future, and nurturing and developing our teams in the Lakes.”
The 33rd edition of Harden’s guide, published this week, ISBN:978- 1916076174, is priced at £20: and is also available as an app for the Android and Apple platforms.
