Four Keswick and Ullswater Hotels Among Elite Worldwide Winners in Major Travel Awards
In a major boost for Lake District tourism, four locally-owned hotels have secured places among the world’s elite hospitality destinations, beating over 90% of global competition to win Tripadvisor’s prestigious Travellers’ Choice Awards 2025.
The remarkable achievement sees Lake District Hotels – a family-owned group rooted in the northern Lakes – claim four spots in the top 10% of hotels worldwide, a feat that places the region firmly on the international tourism map.
The winning properties span the heart of the Lake District:
- Inn on the Lake (Ullswater)
- Inn on the Square (Keswick town centre)
- Borrowdale Hotel (Borrowdale Valley)
- Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa (Derwentwater)(Pictured)
The awards, determined by millions of genuine guest reviews from travellers across 12 months, represent a significant tourism win for Cumbria as the region strengthens its position in the competitive global hospitality market.
“This puts the Lake District on the world stage alongside destinations like the Maldives and Swiss Alps,” said Dani Hope, Director at Lake District Hotels. “For a family business based right here in Keswick and Ullswater to be recognised globally shows what Lake District hospitality can achieve.”
The recognition comes as particularly welcome news for the local economy, with each award-winning property employing dozens of local staff and supporting regional suppliers. The group’s success highlights the Lake District’s growing reputation as a premium destination capable of competing with international luxury markets.
Tourism leaders say the awards provide crucial validation as the region works to attract higher-spending visitors year-round, moving beyond traditional summer peaks to become a four-season destination.
The recognition is expected to drive increased bookings and visitor spending across the group, with the extra hope of seeing increases in international interest following Tripadvisor acknowledgement.
The achievement also reflects broader investment in Lake District hospitality, with the family-owned group continuing to enhance facilities while maintaining the authentic character that draws visitors from around the world.
“Our guests are telling the world that you don’t need to travel to far-flung destinations for world-class hospitality – you can find it right here in the heart of England’s most beautiful landscape,” Dani added.
The awards place Lake District Hotels alongside internationally renowned resort destinations, marking a significant milestone for both the business and regional tourism sector.
