Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) received a generous donation from the staff of the Ullswater Information Centre. Carole Limbert and Denise Lobley from the Centre were joined by Ben Holland, Marketing Manager with the Lake District National Park Authority to hand over a cheque for £500.
“We’ve always had a collection box for Patterdale MRT on the counter,” said Denise, “and we decided to add to this by donating our Easter Monday shop proceeds too.”
Ben Holland added: “We’re keen to support mountain rescue across the Lake District in all sorts of ways, not just financial. Our Information Centres can play a useful part in making sure that people have access to an up-to-date mountain weather forecast as well as maps and guidebooks for the area. Working together, we hope that we can communicate a few simple messages so that visitors avoid becoming a mountain rescue statistic.”
Patterdale MRT Team Leader, Mike Rippon, thanked the National Park Authority and reinforced the safety message too: “It’s all about making a good day better by encouraging people to think about their clothing and equipment, their knowledge and skills and the weather too. We are really grateful to the Ullswater team for their donation and also for all the work that they do to help visitors enjoy the mountains.”
