Treetop Trek has been shortlisted the ‘Accessible and Inclusive’ category at this year’s Cumbria Tourism Awardsafter investing more than £50,000 in its facilities to improve the attraction’s accessibility for people with a disability.
The management team at the Brockhole site has been working with staff from The Bendrigg Trust on the changes – News which has been warmly welcomed by friends, family and carers.
The improvements include the installation of specialist hoisting equipment and other systems which allow wheelchair or restricted mobility users to access the top of the zipline tower and the 250 metre triple zip line down to the shore of Windermere.
All full-time staff have also taken part in Disability Awareness training with The Bendrigg Trust and as a result, last month Treetop Trek was announced as a finalist in the ‘Accessible and Inclusive’ category at June’s Cumbria Tourism Awards ceremony.
Commenting on the changes, a family who recently visited the Brockhole site commented, “As grandparents of a child with physical needs, we have two aims, to help her experience as many activities as her able-bodied sister and to keep her safe. The thoroughness with which the teams prepared, executed and completed the experience was brilliant.”
In addition, Treetop Trek has always operated an unlimited ‘carer goes free’ policy at all sites.
Established in 2012 in the Lake District, Treetop Trek provides high ropes aerial adventures suitable for the whole family. Its sister attraction, Treetop Nets opened in 2014, which was the first of its kind in the UK.
