Grasmere Gingerbread® ‘highly commended’

Joanne and Andrew Hunter accepting their Made in the North West Award

Grasmere Gingerbread® was ‘highly commended’ in a dedicated Food & Drink category at a glittering business awards ceremony inside the Manchester Central Convention Complex.

Judges for Made in the North West praised Grasmere Gingerbread® for its ‘commitment’ to producing its unique, world-famous cross between a biscuit and cake ‘which is testament to the quality of food and drink in the region’.

They also praised Grasmere Gingerbread® for its ‘innovation, commercial success and business development’.

North West Business Insider magazine which hosted the awards ceremony is to feature Grasmere Gingerbread® in a future edition.

It is the third business award in a matter of months for Grasmere Gingerbread® which was invented in 1854 by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson.

As well as their world-famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop, the business now runs a second shop in Hawkshead and is constantly expanding its range of Sarah Nelson branded products made by local artisan suppliers in Cumbria and the Lake District.

“We were absolutely thrilled to be recognised in the middle of our special year-long 170thanniversary celebrations,” said co-director Joanne Hunter.

“We enjoyed the evening so much as it is always energising meeting other businesses and organisations from across the North West.

“There are lots of smaller companies doing amazing things in the region and it was great to see Grasmere Gingerbread® takes its place amongst them at such a positive and celebratory event.”
