Ginger Bakers discovered today (Tuesday 01st August) that their Kendal based cake bakery has picked up a no less than five Great Taste awards as follows:
- Two-stars for their Fig & Orange Christmas Pudding
- One-star for their Sticky Stem Ginger Cake
- One-star for their Apricot Pistachio & Lemon Thyme Crumble Cake
- One-star for their Pistachio Rose & Lemon Drizzle
- One-star for their Carrot and Ginger Cake
This year, the judging took place over 89 days across two judging locations in Dorset and London, where a panel of more than 500 judges put the shortlisted products through their paces. This year’s line-up saw food and drink products submitted from a staggering 109 different countries from across the world.
As part of the judging process each product was blind tasted, with each removed from its packaging, so that they couldn’t be identified, before entering the robust, layered judging process and the final judging decision was arrived at.
Ginger Bakers collected five Great Taste awards this year, which brings their total star tally to 25 received so far since they first entered products into the awards in 2006.
The judges commented on Ginger Bakers two-star Fig & Orange Christmas Pudding: ‘’This is a generously fruit-packed pudding which is light and airy, neither hefty nor greasy. The judges loved the citrus notes and the boozy tones which weave themselves throughout the pudding. A well-made and deliciously rich pudding which they thought was excellent!’’
Lisa Smith, owner of Ginger Bakers, said: “Each year the Great Taste awards showcase the very best products, many of which are crafted and produced by small producers like ourselves. Winning a stamp of approval like this is a big boost to the business, but it also recognises everyone’s hard work in developing our products for our customers and in turn what we are creating makes the grade, potentially opening all sorts of doors in the longer term.’’
