Four modern flats will be created in the centre of Carlisle after a local business purchase an historic Grade II Listed building which houses a national pizza restaurant chain.
Carlisle-based Peacock Properties North has acquired the three-storey 21 Lowther Street building from which Pizza Express currently operates. The chain will continue to run from the premises for the foreseeable future.
Peacock Properties plans to convert the unoccupied first and second floors into four comfortable, high-end residential units in a sought-after central location.
Kieron Peacock, the company’s Managing Director, said: “There is a desperate need for more homes and flats in Carlisle, and Lowther Street is an ideal location for those looking for accommodation in the heart of the city.
“We’re delighted to have had an offer accepted on such a prominent building in the city centre, and we’re excited to get started on creating four modern, luxurious flats that people will be proud to call their home.
“Lowther Street is a bustling part of Carlisle which has excellent amenities on the doorstep, and the flats will make outstanding homes for those looking for somewhere convenient to live.”
Peacock Properties creates luxurious, design-led residential and commercial properties across the North West.
The flats will occupy the top two floors of 21 Lowther Street, with Pizza Express operating from the ground floor and basement.
Planning permission for the creation of four apartments/flats was granted in 2022 but expired in 2025. Carlisle-based Ashwood Design Associates is working with Peacock Properties to submit new plans in the coming weeks.
Peacock Properties North is part of the newly-formed Peacock Group which brings together three businesses owned by young entrepreneur Kieron. Engineering company Peacock Precision Services and Peacock Equipment Hire make up the rest of the group.
