After 14 successful years trading as Faye’s Sewing Box from an indoor market stall, local retailer Faye Walker has taken an exciting step forward and opened a new store in Kendal’s New Shambles. The move signals a fresh chapter for the business and introduces a new name: Faye’s Haberdashery.
The haberdashery is popular with knitters, crocheters, and sewers and caters to experienced makers or anyone new to creative hobbies. As one of the few remaining specialists in haberdashery in the area, Faye’s offers an extensive range of sewing supplies, fabrics, wool yarns, and trims.
The new store opened on Saturday and is a one-stop shop that provides an extensive range of notions, from press studs to sewing machine needles, materials, and supplies for creative and practical projects.
“This move is a positive milestone for the business,” said Faye, owner and third-generation manager. “I want to thank all our wonderful customers for their support over the years and look forward to showing them the new shop.”
“I’m excited to welcome new customers, particularly those who might not expect us to be their type of store. For instance, we’re a stockist of webbing, buckles and sliders for rucksacks and waterproof clothing. I’m encouraging anyone interested in the ‘make and mend’ way of life to think of us.
“My passion for providing high-quality products and friendly customer service remains at the heart of the business. And I think the traditional nature of our haberdashery perfectly suits the historic location of the New Shambles – I’m enjoying trading alongside the many interesting independent businesses here.”
The new location is Number 3, New Shambles in Kendal and the shop opened on March 8th, 2025.
Opening hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm
