AN EXPERIENCED Family Law solicitor has joined a growing Cumbrian legal firm.
Liz Wilson brings more than 20 years’ experience to Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors, which operates across Cumbria, Northumberland and nationally.
Her appointment further strengthens the legal firm’s Family Law team, which is expanding to meet client demand for its services.
Liz, who joins Cartmell Shepherd as a Senior Associate Solicitor, said: “I’m very much enjoying being part of such a highly regarded team and getting to know my colleagues and clients. Being part of the local community is important to me and the fact that Cartmell Shepherd actively supports so many local organisations and charities was a big draw for me.
“Working in family law, you are providing legal solutions for people who are going through some of the most difficult and challenging times in their lives, whether that involves separation, divorce, or disputes about children. By understanding the unique complexities of each situation and offering calm, professional legal advice, we can find ways for them to move forward and find a resolution.”
Born in Zambia, Liz lived abroad for most of her childhood because her parents worked overseas. After completing a geography degree at the University of Edinburgh followed by an MA in Media & Communication Studies from Goldsmith’s College, University of London, Liz worked in market research for three years before embarking on her legal career. She completed her legal qualifications at the College of Law in London and gained a training contract at city firm Olswang, focusing on banking, online corporate, film/TV and intellectual property litigation. In 2004, she made the decision to switch from Corporate Law to Family Law and joined a firm of solicitors in Kent, relocating to Cumbria two years later. Liz worked for Beaty & Co in Wigton, which was later acquired by Bendles Solicitors, for 10 years, and spent three years at Burnetts Solicitors before joining Cartmell Shepherd.
Liz, who lives near Caldbeck, will be based at the firm’s office at Viaduct House in Carlisle.
Headed up by Amy Fallows, who is also a Deputy District Judge, Cartmell Shepherd’s Family Law department is one of the largest and most experienced in Cumbria, with a team of 12 staff including five solicitors.The team, which was strengthened last year following Cartmell Shepherd’s acquisition of Hexham-based Nicholson Portnell Solicitors, includes experts across different fields of Family Law who provide specialist advice.
The department carries out all aspects of private Family Law work including divorce, separation, matrimonial finance, child arrangements, cohabitation disputes and agreements, nuptial agreements, adoption, special guardianship, surrogacy, domestic abuse and collaborative work.
Cartmell Shepherd Solicitors has offices in Carlisle (two locations), Brampton, Penrith and Cockermouth, and Hexham and Haltwhistle in Northumberland.
