A SPECIALTY Cumbrian coffee roaster has had two products reach the finals of a prestigious national food awards competition.
Threlkeld-based Carvetii Coffee Roasters’ seasonal espresso blend plus the limited edition Guji Uraga Gomoro – a fruity Ethiopian coffee – have both made the shortlist of the Great British Food Awards 2020.
The annual awards, which are this year in partnership with Northern supermarket chain, Booths, celebrate the UK’s finest artisanal produce as well as the hard-working people behind the scenes. Judges include many of the nation’s best-loved chefs, cooks, and critics with recognisable names ranging from The Hairy Bikers, Michel Roux Jnr, and Raymond Blanc to Miguel Barclay, William Sitwell, and Olly Smith.
Winners will be revealed on October 29th and featured in the Autumn issue of Great British Food magazine.
Carvetii is the only coffee roaster to have two products being judged in the finals of the Coffee category. Owner and co-founder, Gareth Kemble, said: “It is a huge honour to get not only one but two of our products in front of some of the most respected names in the food & drink industry. We’re beyond thrilled to be shortlisted for products that reflect our business really well and that are different to many mainstream blends.”
Natasha Lovell-Smith, editor of Great British Food magazine and organiser of the awards said: “Each year, our awards entries yield exciting new flavours from all across Britain, ‘undiscovered’ local gems as well as better known British producer-brands. Feedback on the finalists from our famous judges, the majority of which return every year to support the awards, is always packed with praise and appreciation for the skill, passion and knowledge that goes into producing food and drink of such high standard. To win an award means that your product is truly one of the best in Britain, and is a seal of its provenance too.”
