The finalists for the Cateys have been revealed after the judges met to select the winners from the hundreds of nominations received.

And among those shortlisted in The Pub and Bar category, are Sedbergh’s Black Bull Inn, alongside The Audley Public House. London, The Scran & Scallie, Edinburgh, The Chestnut Group and Paul Ainsworth Collection.

The internationally renowned annual awards, now in their 40th year, are the biggest of their kind in the hospitality industry and are designed to recognise the latest emerging brands and the highest flyers in the sector.

Chosen for their expertise and industry knowledge, over 100 judges met to discuss the nominees and produce their shortlist of finalists across the 20 categories, which include Chef Award, Sustainable Business Award, Hotel of the Year (Group), Education and Training Award, Wine and Spirit Ambassador Award, Best Marketing Campaign Award, Restaurateur of the Year (Independent) as well as several special categories including the Life Time Achievement Award and International Outstanding Achievement Award.

The category finalists now have to wait until 4th July, when the winners will be revealed at a glittering black-tie event being held at JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London.

Black Bull co-owner Nina Matsunaga said: ‘’It’s the second year we’ve been successful in being shortlisted for a Catey in The Pub and Bar category. To even be in with a chance of winning this category is so special, because it recognises culinary flair and innovation, sound business practice, the highest levels of customer service, commitment to team development as well as involvement in the local community – all of which we pride ourselves on being totally committed to – so fingers crossed we can win through against some pretty stiff competition and bring the plaudits back to Cumbria.’’
