When a community comes together they can make a real difference, as the residents of Appleby are showing.
Following Storm Desmond on December 5, 2015, the town’s residential care home Edenside was flooded, and it has stood empty ever since. However, the town has not sat back and let a much loved and needed service be lost. Following marches, public meetings and a grassroots campaign, Cumbrian charity The Oaklea Trust took over the building in December last year and have plans to redevelop the site to create extra care housing for local, elderly people.
And the town isn’t just sitting back now, they are actively helping to raise funds for the new development – and create a social event at the same time this month.
The Hub in Appleby will be welcoming guests for a special evening of food and music to raise funds for the development of the Edenside Residential Care Home in the town.
Middle Eden Voices will be performing for the informal Social Evening of Food and Songs, as The Hub’s cook Patrizia is creating a supper.
Leader of the Choir, Barbara Gilbertson said: “We are so pleased to be able to help with this fundraising event for #ProjetEden, and this is also a great opportunity for everyone to come together to celebrate the new future for Edenside while enjoying good food, music and company.
“This cause is close to everyone’s hearts in the choir, and to be able to help raise funds for these plans is an honour.”
A limited number of tickets are still available for the fundraising event on Wednesday, May 15 from 6.30pm. As well as the choir, other musician and acts will be performing at The Hub which is also run by The Oaklea Trust.
