Carlisle selected to take part in the census rehearsal

This October the Office for National Statistics (ONS) is running a census rehearsal ahead of the real thing in 2021. Counting everyone in England and Wales is a huge task. Carlisle has been selected to help make sure the processes, systems and services are running smoothly before 2021.

The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives the ONS the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. The information you give helps local authorities decide how services are planned and funded in your area from doctors’ surgeries and housing to new bus routes. This means it’s really important the ONS get it right.

The ONS chose four rehearsal areas, including Carlisle. It’s important you take part in the rehearsal as the more people that respond, the more information the ONS has to make the census in 2021 the best it can be. Keep an eye out for a letter through the post with a unique access code. The letter will show you how you can take part in the rehearsal this October.
